Endoscopic brow lift
Toronto
Elevate a descended brow and open the upper periorbital frame using small scalp incisions and an endoscope. No coronal scar.
Why the brow matters
The brow frames the upper face. When it descends, it compounds every other sign of periorbital ageing. A descended brow adds to upper eyelid hooding, narrows the vertical dimension of the eye, and creates a heavy, fatigued appearance that upper blepharoplasty alone cannot fully correct.
The endoscopic brow lift elevates the brow to its anatomically appropriate position using a few short incisions hidden in the hair, releasing the periosteal attachments that hold the brow down and securing the elevated tissue in its correct position. No long scalp incision. Scars are usually hidden in the hair. The hairline can rise slightly, and Dr. Gill plans for this.
Combined with blepharoplasty
The endoscopic brow lift and upper blepharoplasty address adjacent but distinct anatomical problems. Brow lift elevates the frame; blepharoplasty removes excess skin within the eyelid itself. When both procedures are indicated, they can address both areas in one operation.
Critically, performing upper blepharoplasty on a patient with unrecognised brow ptosis removes skin that the face needs once the brow descends further, which can leave an eyelid that is too short. Diagnosing brow ptosis before upper blepharoplasty is a core clinical skill of oculoplastic surgery.
Assessed at consultation
At your upper eyelid consultation, Dr. Gill assesses whether brow descent contributes to your concerns and whether a brow lift is indicated.

All surgery has risks. With brow and midface surgery these include numbness of the forehead, scalp or cheek, usually temporary; hair thinning at an incision; a change in hairline; asymmetry; and, rarely, weakness of the muscles that raise the brow.
Dr. Gill will go through the risks that apply to you at your consultation.
From 2010 to 2016 Dr. Gill was a Course Instructor in the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Endoscopic Forehead and Eyebrow Elevation skills-transfer course at its annual meeting, and he has more than 15 years of experience with endoscopic surgery.
